USCIS Extends Green Card Renewal Period to 36 Months
Oct 14, 2024
Immigration Updates
Starting on September 10, 2024, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will extend the automatic renewal period for green cards to 36 months. This applies to people who have filed for a green card renewal. Before this change, the extension period was 24 months. USCIS made this change to help applicants keep proof of their permanent residency while waiting for longer processing times.
The new 36-month extension will be clearly shown on receipt notices for renewal applications (Form I-90) filed on or after September 10, 2024. USCIS will also send updated receipt notices to people who already have pending applications, including those filed before this date.
